Wildfire Prepared - Introduction
Fellow Evergreen Meadows residents,
We live in a high-risk environment sandwiched between the mountain forest and the city. This area is referred to as the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) and, because our homes are here where there is ample fuel for a wildfire, all of us face the risk of a wildfire in our community.
To protect your family, your property and your neighborhood from wildfire, we encourage you to educate yourself on the unique risks of living in the WUI and things you can do to reduce those risks. Start by having your property inspected by your fire district (Evergreen or Elk Creek). Second, harden your home to make it more resistant to ignition. Third, create defensible space around your home to reduce the likelihood that a fire burning on the ground ignites your home. Last, reduce the fuel load on your property beyond defensible space and make the forest healthier and more resistant to wildfire.
If there is a fire burning in the area, your best strategy is to leave EARLY; don’t wait to be told to evacuate. Once you are out of the area, you can safely assess the situation.
This website is aimed at providing information and tools to accomplish these things. This is not a trivial exercise and will require dedication, effort and money to accomplish but every step to reduce risk is a benefit to your and our safety. If you have questions in the meantime, please contact one or both of us.
Sincerely, your Ambassadors
